Ceremonies and TraditionsAs strange as it may seem, the Paiute Indians did not have a celebration or any specific ceremony for a wedding. However , they did have two traditions that were strictly followed.

One tradition took place at the time of a young girl's first menstrual period. The girl had to stay in isolation for four days during which she did not touch her face or hair with her hands, she would eat animal-based foods, and would drink cold liquids. After the four days passed, rituals such as the girl bathing in cold water, painting her face, and cutting the ends of her hair were performed as a closing for this ceremony.

Another tradition was for the pregnant woman and the expectant father. The ceremony was almost the same as the girls' however, the father would run east at sunrise and west at sunset.

During both of these ceremonies, it was tradition for the older members of the tribe (particularly the women) to give advice to the girl or couple involved in the ceremony.
